DESCRIPTION:Kris Drever is among Scotland’s most acclaimed and distinctive contemporary musicians\, celebrated for his warm voice\, virtuosically expressive guitar playing and imaginative and evocative songwriting. Raised in the Orkney Islands\, Drever has carved out a unique place at the intersection of traditional folk and modern acoustic music\, as a solo artist and as one third of the award-winning trio Lau. \n\n\n\nOver the course of his career\, Kris has won hatfuls of honours\, including BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Singer\, Best Original Song\, and Best Group with Lau. His solo work combines lyrics of depth and authenticity with expertly pitched arrangements\, exploring themes of place\, identity\, and social change\, delivered with clarity\, compassion\, and poetic insight. \n\n\n\nKris will be playing some brand-new songs as well as a selection from his back catalogue of originals and interpretations of traditional material on this tour. She will be exhibiting the paintings from her final degree show. \n\n\n\nJamie Oldham is a member of The Lakes Art Society and his collection includes oil and acrylic landscapes. \n\n\n\nGeoffrey Smith works in oils and paints a range of subjects. This collection of work concentrates on hares\, barn owls & Herdwick sheep\, alongside some local landscapes. \n\n\n\nJohn Sibson’s paintings includes marine watercolours and oil landscapes.

DESCRIPTION:‘Ambassador of the Blues’ Guy Davis is a two time\, back-to-back Grammy nominee\, a recipient of the Blues Foundation’s\, “Keeping the Blues Alive Award” in Theatre\, has over two dozen Blues Music Award nominations for Best Acoustic Blues Artist\, Best Song\, and Best Acoustic Album of the Year.  He has recently added Broadway Composer to his resume\, scoring the incidental music for the revival of his late father Ossie Davis’ play\, “Purlie Victorious”. \n\n\n\nDavis has had his musical storytelling influenced by artists like Blind Willie McTell and Big Bill Broonzy\, and his musicality from artists as diverse as Lightnin’ Hopkins and Babatunde Olatunji\, and harmonica techniques from most notably\, Sonny Terry. \n\n\n\nHis latest album is “The Legend of Sugarbelly”\, a follow-up to “Be Ready When I Call You”\, which like the album before it\, “Sonny & Brownie’s Last Train – A Look Back at Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry”\, it were both nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.  “The Legend of Sugarbelly” gets some of it’s songs from a play that Guy has been developing\, and features the emotionally charged song\, “Early In the Morning”\, written during the darkest days of Covid.  \n\n\n\nGuy has released 15 albums and has appeared on dozens of tribute albums and compilations. DESCRIPTION:Bio:Guitarist and singer\, Heather Cartwright\, resides in Glasgow after the completion of her degree in Traditional Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; “Talent and years of dedication have created a guitarist of the first order” (The Quintessential Review). Her virtuosic fingerstyle and flat-picked guitar playing provides a vibrant backdrop to her self-penned songs and interpretations of traditional material. Her song writing draws upon old stories\, her own life experiences growing up in the Lake District\, and poetry\, old and new. As well as performing solo\, Heather is often seen performing in a duo with Beth Malcolm\, Scots singer of the Year 2022 & 2024\, and Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2022 finalist\, Sam Mabbett (accordion). DESCRIPTION:Dub N Grub is back for 2025 with the first event happening at the end of this month. This is another first time event for Cumbria as we welcome internationally renown Sinai Sound System from Sheffield for an intimate session as they meet local sound system crew North Fire Sound. Sheffield based\, Sinai Sound System plays contemporary reggae and dub music presented in the traditional sound system style\, fusing the boundaries between pro-audio and sound system culture.  \n\n\n\nThe sound system in its full form was debuted in Sheffield to great acclaim in March 2014. Since then\, it has gone from strength to strength pushing the boundaries of what a modern sound system can be. \n\n\n\nAs time has gone by the crew has increased to four full time members\, each with their own specialised skill set; be it building boxes\, creating new original music to play on the sound\, promotion\, maintenance and more.  Working closely together with other Sheffield sound crews\, working as a team\, Sinai relies on its strengths and not just individual personalities. \n\n\n\nSinai Sound was also the first dub sound system to appear on the prestigious “Boiler Room”\, providing the sound system for Deep Medi in Nov 2015 \n\n\n\nWith other sound system and DJ appearances at; SubDub\, Deep Medi\, Boiler Room\, Telerama Dub Festival\, Outlook Festival\, Dimensions Festival\, Boomtown Festival\, SYSTEM\, The Mine\, Freerange\, Nantes Dub Club\, Dub Station (France) One Love Festival\, Dancehall Science\, United Nations of Dub Festival\, RubberDub\, Bristol Dub Club\, International Dub Gathering (Spain)\, Displace\, Young Echo\, Tumble Audio\, Techtonic Records\, Shak Out\, Jungle Cat\, Back to Basics\, Deeper Than Roots\, Dub Cub\, Decades of Dub\, Dusk Till Dawn\, Love a Dub\, Walk N Skank and many more!Each crew will be playing in rotation on their own sound system throughout the night with special guest Hanamercy playing tunes for Sinai Sound. SUMMARY:Kris Drever & Chris Stout
DESCRIPTION:Kris Drever and Chris Stout are icons of the Scottish roots culture and two of the most powerful contemporary voices to sing out of it in the last quarter century. \n\n\n\nBoth come from the Northern Isles (Kris from Orkney and Chris from Shetland) and represent the strength of those identities in the music they inhabit. Inherited through childhood\, family and osmosis\, you can hear the wind whistling through the strings\, the rhythms washing against your animal self and the old stories whispering out from the ingleneuk. \n\n\n\nIn Glasgow in 2019 the two found themselves to be neighbours in the West End and began meeting up and playing music together. Both musicians found a sound of great interest and emotional power in these little get-togethers\, and it soon became a more regular happening. \n\n\n\nNow they’ve decided to share the experience with a wider audience. Come and hear songs and tunes you know and some you don’t\, shining through the unique prism of these two ‘one of a kind’ musicians. \n\n\n\nKris is a guitarist\, singer and founder member of the trio Lau. He’s a multi award winning singer songwriter and has played and written with a galaxy of stars (Eddi Reader\, Roddy Woomble\, Mark Knopfler\, Kate Rusby\, Jack Bruce\, Karine Polwart…). \n\n\n\nChris is a virtuoso violinist\, viola player and composer\, founder member of the legendary Shetland band ‘Fiddlers Bid’ and long-time collaborator of the genius harpist Catriona McKay. DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the Power and Beauty of Nature \n\n\n\n\n\nJamie grew up in Cumbria under the Howgill Fells\, has a degree in fine art from Bath and is an active member of the Lake Artists Society\, plus the Keswick and Penrith art groups. Currently\, he exibits in the region as well as in West London. He runs workshops to encourage others in his passion for bolder use of colour\, capturing the changing light of the sky and painting [in oils] outside (year round). He lives close to the Solway coast which features regularly in his work. “Nothing beats being in the landscape to be able to capture the shifting light and tones”.As well as landscapes created in the open air\, Jamie also works in several genres such as still life and birds in a range of media including acrylics\, oils\, cold wax\, gouache and pastel.

DESCRIPTION:‘Madalitso band are a two man musical army from Malawi. Described as ‘Uplifting and Vibrant’ by the BBC\, they get crowds beaming with wonder and on their feet dancing every time. Their first album was produced by Bongo Joe records and the band has already performed at Womex 2020\, Womad 2019\, Roskilde 2018\, Sauti Za Busara 2017…to name just a few. They were discovered busking outside a shopping centre in 2009. Their vibrant playing\, strong vocals and traditional style caught the attention of Emanuel Kamwenje who recorded their first album the same year. The band plays the babatone – a home-made instrument popular in Malawi – and the four-string guitar\, creating the traditional Malawi ‘banjo’ sound. DESCRIPTION:Mishra are a global folk band from the UK gathering international recognition\, who draw together roots in UK traditional music with continent-spanning musical textures into a breathtaking 5 piece performance. They draw on training in Indian classical\, UK folk\, contemporary classical\, and a distinctive instrumental palette including santoor\, banjo\, clarinet\, low whistle\, double bass\, and a vast array of percussion.  \n\n\n\nFormed by acclaimed folk musicians Kate Griffin and Ford Collier\, all members of Mishra met in Sheffield over a shared passion for the creative possibilities of Indian classical music. She has released two albums of original songs and performed both as a classical player and as a singer/songwriter on both sides of the Atlantic. Her skills as a guitarist are prodigious and make a very exciting fit with Tony’s work. \n\n\n\nThe duo’s guitar treatments of traditional music is unique exploring the harmonic possibilities of these old\, and sometimes not so old\, tunes.
