DESCRIPTION:Peter has been a professional artist for thirty-five years and has a studio in Allendale\, Northumberland. He is increasingly inspired by the landscape of the North\, but also paints cityscape\, portraits\, the figure and still life. \n\n\n\nHis influences increasingly are the painters of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century; the realist painters of the “Grand Manner” and Impressionism\, also painting from America and Russia during that era. DESCRIPTION:EXHIBITION CONTINUES UNTIL 8TH AUGUST \nThe exhibition has paintings by railway artists who create evocative images of the railways of the past and these are combined with the unseen photographs by the late Trevor Grimshaw. \nTrevor photographed the rusting and abandoned trains\, at the time when all steam trains were retired from service. This is no lazy pastiche\, no dressing up box. They live and breathe this music and want you to get immersed with them. This duo show sees them exploring alternative arrangements of their classic songs\, alongside new music they have been working on through lockdown. Rob & Tom’s band\, The Tea Pad Orchestra\, are ten years into a remarkable story that now sees them playing venues and festivals across the UK and mainland Europe. SUMMARY:Puss in Boots
DESCRIPTION:The Upfront Puppet Theatre Christmas production is “Puss in Boots”. The show is based on the original French fairy tale. The father of the family dies and the oldest son inherits the flour mill; the second a donkey and the youngest son\, Marco\, inherits a cat! BUT this is no ordinary cat. Puss has magical qualities that enable him to talk and stand on two legs. DESCRIPTION:PAINTINGS by PHILIPPA HEADLEY\n\n\n\n29th September – 13th December \n\n\n\nI have spent many years hiking in the Lakeland Fells and walking along the Jurassic Coast. Whether I’m viewing a precipitous cliff top from the sea or gazing at a fell yet to be climbed I find wonderful opportunities to paint. This everchanging environment\, eroded by weather over centuries or changed daily by the tides\, evokes many emotions. \n\n\n\nThis series of paintings\, of places where the worlds of coast and mountains intertwine\, is my expression of the persistent pull I feel to be part of the landscape\, to play at the water’s edge\, walk through the mountains or simply take a quiet moment with my sketchbook and capture images of these interactions to convey ways we react to nature. \n\n\nThrow Me A StickAfternoon LightDeep In ConversationA Quiet Moment

Bwiti is an ancient shamanic tradition\, originally practised solely by the forest peoples of the central African rainforest. SUMMARY:Irene Sanderson “Shrines”
DESCRIPTION:Painted images and photographs of a journey around Japan visiting beautiful and mysterious Shinto shrines – the greatest\, the oldest\, and the newest\, enshrining a sun goddess\, a mountain\, a fox\, the mythical founders of the nation and heroes of national modernisation. \nThis journey along with conversations with Shinto priests\, historians\, ultra-rightist activists\, atom bomb survivors\, old friends and strangers on the train amongst others\, presented her with an opportunity to observe the country as it commemorates 150 years from its opening to the west and as the new Emperor ascends the throne beginning yet another new era. \nIrene Sanderson first arrived in Japan in 1972 and set up a studio in Tokyo. One evening that hot summer she was invited to a class for the study of Japanese ink painting. In the windowless basement the master and her assistant\, both in immaculate kimono\, loaded brushes with sumi ink and set about creating images of the Four Friends. \nThis artform\, based on the action of ink meeting paper\, has the intimacy of drawing\, revealing origins and intentions\, and its immediacy and candour captivated Sanderson. From then on\, she began a lifetime’s involvement with these methods and aesthetics\, incorporating them into her own distinctive style. \nIt is this attitude and approach\, knowledgeable and respectful of Japanese tradition but also alert to contemporary perceptions\, that she brings to this portrayal of Japan at the start of the Reiwa era.

DESCRIPTION:Here at Upfront we believe this band to be on of the top Reggae Dub bands in the UK and we are so happy to finally welcome them to Upfront Arts Venue for a standing concert. \n\n\n\nSoulful UK Reggae in a Dubwise fashion. 9 piece band – Performing on custom built Reggae Sound System \n\n\n\nResonators are at the forefront of the UK dub scene\, forging their love of 70’s roots reggae with diverse contemporary influences to deliver their own exciting sound. Fronted by dual vocal powerhouse Faye Houston and Kassia Zermon\, this nine-piece takes us on a sonic excursion which reaches from the light and soulful\, to the dark and gritty. \n\n\n\nTen years on from their beginning\, their objective is more relevant than ever\, to bring something reflective and positive to the world. Through the formidable craftsmanship of dub engineer Darren Jamtone at the controls\, Resonators offer a powerful\, psychedelic and euphoric experience both on record and on stage. Resonators have gained notoriety for their awesome live shows\, as well assupport slots for greats such as The Skatalites\, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry\, Jimmy Cliff\, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Horcae Andy to name a few. \n\n\n\nPlus warm up DJs on the night.
