Cumbria Printmakers
4th Sep 2018 - 28th Oct 2018
Exhibitors
Cumbria Printmakers aim to create a group of artists who all work together, contributing to the group, helping each other develop as artists, both professionals and inexperienced. We always welcome new people and believe in unlocking creative potential in everyone. We offer workshops to encourage the inexperienced and skills sharing for professionals.p Cumbria Printmakers champion printmaking through exhibitions, events and outreach activities. The group aims to support artists, promote printmaking and collaborate with our partners and the local community to develop courses and workshops which make printmaking accessible for everyone.

The joint preview with Cumbrian Ceramics on Thursday 13th September 7pm - 9pm will include an "Empty Bowls" fundraising event for the charity, Mary's Meals. Bowls donated by the potters will be sold and filled with seasonal soup or fruit crumble. Cumbria Printmakers will have a raffle of prints that they have donated.

PORTRAIT OF CUMBRIA
26th Jun 2018 - 2nd Sep 2018
Life and Landscape - Photographs by Phil Rigby from cumbrialife
Exhibitors
An exhibition of photographs by Phil Rigby, Cumbria Life Picture Editor.

Phil's book "Portrait of Cumbria", published by Cumbria Life Magazine last year has been shortlisted for the 2018 Lakeland Book of the Year awards which take place on July 10th.

The exhibition will include photographs which are in the book and were originally seen in Cumbria Life Magazine over the last nine years, plus photographs from Phil's own personal collection. As he quite rightly says "The combination of fascinating people and an extraordinary landscape helps to make Cumbria a special place to live and work".

Copies of the book will be for sale.

A selection of prints of the photographs will be available for sale and others can be ordered.

MASKIT - Mask Exhibition
15th May 2018 - 24th Jun 2018
Exhibitors
A unique exhibition of hand crafted, original performance masks of the stock characters of The Italian Commedia (Commedia dell' Arte).

Their creator, David Griffiths has been making, writing and directing masked theatre for over 40 years. David is "artist in residence" at the gallery until 17th June. He can be seen making masks in leather and other materials, using historically traditional techniques - a rare opportunity to observe these skills in Britain.

David will be leading sessions in mask-making where students will learn basic techniques in creating masks for performance. He will also be taking workshops in mask in performance - how to animate the character of the mask.

If you would be interested in either or both of these workshops, please contact us. The workshops are for adults and young people over the age of 11.
