""Summer Collection of Work by Frances Winder"
20th Aug 2013 - 29th Sep 2013
Light, colour and the atmoshere of the place are important to me. Either paintings, drawings or prints, my work is mostly landscape based. The paintings may reflect one aspect, a close view, a colour dynamic, or a mood created by our changing weather, but each of them carries an echo of something I have known or seen. My work is most often Acrylic on Canvas or Gouache and Oil Pastel mixed media work, I am also interested in Printmaking , Embroidery and Ceramics, these will be shown in other exhibitions later this year.

"Scene Through Different Eyes - Water"
9th Jul 2013 - 18th Aug 2013
Julie Dumbarton has been a regular exhibitor at Upfront since the gallery first opened and we are very excited by the collaborative work that she is doing with fine art photographer, Phil McMenemy. We will be hosting what promises to be an inspirational exhibition, following on from their critically acclaimed 2012 collaboration. The focus this time is upon the natural beauty to be found across Cumbria and South West Scotland, using the element of water as a unifying theme across the works. To prepare for the exhibition both artists have travelled around the region together, taking inspiration from the incredible landscapes they have seen. The result is a pair of images reflecting the same location, but often focusing on different elements. Phil looks for the shape and form of the landscape or the movement of water, whereas for Julie it is all about structure and colour.’

"Out of the Shadows into the Light"
21st May 2013 - 7th Jul 2013
The work will include oil and mixed media paintings as well as Marks' unique wood and linocuts. There will be a huge variety of images on display, the common theme being Marks' use of colour and light as seen through his eyes as a graphic designer, looking at this unique Cumbrian landscape.
Mark is a Printmaker and Contemporary Landscape Painter. It is the effect of light and colour within the landscape that fascinates Mark. He is continually experimenting within, and between, media and disciplines in order to share what is so compelling to him. It is the tone, colour and contrast created by shadow and light in the landscape that he strives to convey in his vibrant images. Marks' insight comes by looking at this very special part of the world, where the mountains meet the sea, through a graphic designer’s eye.
