2017 New Years Update
With great pleasure we announce this our 20th year in business.
The new years has started with our 17th Artists Open Exhibition which is now available to view until March. We had an amazing amount of artists apply this year with a wide range of work selected for the show.
In the next few months we have some great music concerts with folk musician Steve Tilston in March and the lively Afro-Fusion band K.O.G and the Zongo Brigade in April.
We also have our run of Easter puppet shows produced by Upfront Puppet Theatre.

We have done a series of very successful fundraising concerts for the new Upfront Arts Theatre Building. "While & Matthews" on Sunday 3rd November will be the last one of the year, before setting up the theatre for the new Christmas puppet production "The Pied Piper of Hamelin". The Christmas exhibition in the Gallery opens on 12th November. It is "Four Seasons", oil paintings by Heather Blanchard (more details under gallery exhibitions). The new courtyard entrance and disabled access is finished. New signage to be done in early 2014. See some of the latest photos below.
After many hectic months things have begun to take shape. The 12th Upfront Cumbrian Artists Open Exhibition extends throughout the original gallery and the new entrance foyer gallery. The new space looks impressive and the encouraging comments from visitors make all of the hard work worthwhile. The new Puppet Theatre worked perfectly for the Christmas production and it will be even better when we do our first production designed for the new space. Concerts will be taking place in the theatre, so expect some exciting evenings when we will be able to retract some of the seating rake so that we can offer the option of candlelit tables. Below are a selection of images to try and
We have to raise £20,000 of sponsor money to complete the Puppet Theatre build. A seat can be sponsored for £150 and a plank can be sponsored for £50. So far we have raised £6,000. We hope to achieve charitable status very soon which will mean all sponsor money can be gift aided. If you would like to make a donation towards the match funding required for the building of the new puppet theatre, please download and complete our sponsorship form and post it to us and we will contact you.
All of the steel framework is finished. The floors and walls are going in and the roof should be going on in a couple of weeks.
Progress photos of the new theatre building. The size and potential of the new building can now be visualised more easily with the steel framework almost complete. The additional exhibition hanging space will be similar in size to the present Gallery, plus a 140 seat puppet theatre/performance space and puppet museum.....very exciting.
